With deep-inheritance of art & culture, India is bestowed with several handloom skills. In today’s day & age this industry has come along way and a major accreditation for the same goes to the centralized units that provide consolidated services for industry and bring in technological up gradations on a large scale.
Handloom manufacturers in India have discarded the usage of banned materials in dyeing processes with safe substitutes, to ensure eco-friendliness of the products. Now they have switched over to state-of-the-art modern processing houses to roll out large volumes of high quality products in order to match international standards, Realising the importance of certification in the global markets, HEPC is gearing up its Council’s members for implementing ISO 9000/9002 and ISO 14000 to ensure world class quality and standard.
The Handloom export Promotion Council (HEPC) is a statutory body constituted under The Ministry of Textiles, Government products like fabrics, home furnishings, carpets and floor coverings, etc. The basic objective of HEPC is to provide all support and guidance to Indian handloom exporters as well as international buyers for trade promotions and international marketing of handlooms world over. The council has now developed a new range of products with a rare blend of traditional Indian products and modern style & design pattern. Some of them are innovations in Karnataka’s Kondi products, Madhya Pradesh’s Buster art Nagaland’s Naga art Orissa’s Ikat designs.
This Council, under its Handloom Export Promotions Scheme, has provided subsidy to all 20 handloom exhibitors for participation at IHGF. An exhibitor, who is a member of both EPCH as well as HEPC says, “This is our second participation at the IHGF and we have received very good response especially on furnishings in pink. Handloom products have lot of consumers in EU, Japan, France, Poland & Sweden. The buyer traffic at IHGF has really increased. We have already received sampling orders from Japan & Sweden. IEC is a very clean venue with efficient shuttle services.”
